It’s immensely empowering to fully step into your power and own your gifts. Where the purpose of acknowledgement isn’t driven by ego or hustle or any other false sense of self, but is instead is an acknowledgement of what others have already known about you – you are pretty damn awesome. That moment of clarity, the weight of the realization is profound.
I’ve been rereading, immersing myself in, and literally transcribing my key takeaways from both The Gifts of Imperfection and Dare to Lead the last several weeks. On their own, they are life-changing books. Together? They are consciousness-altering. Shift is happening for me, I can feel it and others are seeing it.
I’m dangerously powerful when I am in my element.
I’m on the precipice of “what’s next” for my career. The ultimate in vulnerability – putting your whole heart into something without any guarantees. I’m drawing huge amounts of inspiration from other DTL facilitators and consultants that are out there doing this work full time. #dream “Courage and fear are not mutually exclusive.” ~ Brené Brown, Dare to Lead
As part of my preparation to teach DTL, I am getting crystal clear on my own values so I can better serve the work. When I was in Texas, we were asked to identify our top 2 core values from a list, or make up our own. The amount of time we were given wasn’t sufficient for me, so I took it back to Minneapolis as homework. I’ve come to the realization that I have 3 core values that really have shaped who I have become. They are Integrity, Learning and Home.
For me, Integrity is at the heart of everything I do and the way I try to live my life. In Rising Strong, Brené shares this as the definition: “Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what is fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them.” Truly, there is no higher compliment that I can be paid than to say I have acted with integrity, especially when there has been price to pay for it. Courage friends, courage.
Identifying Learning as one of my core values was a no-brainer (no pun intended). It was through a recent discussion with a DTL colleague that I came up with this gem: “Curiosity is a precursor, and wisdom is the outcome, but Learning is the vehicle.” ~Paula Grace Boom!
My third core value I identified was Home. When I first chose it, I tried to talk myself out of it but the concept of Home – or lack thereof – is inextricable from my story. Read more about it here.
In short, I’m feeling extremely grateful for this unexpected clearing, and this new-found appreciation for the talents I possess. There is something really beautiful about settling into who you really are, without apology. I am excited about the next chapter.
QOTD: “We are not here to fit in, be well balanced, or provide exempla for others. We are here to be eccentric, different, perhaps strange, perhaps merely to add our small piece, our little clunky, chunky selves to the great mosaic of being. As the gods intended, we are here to become more and more ourselves.” ~ Jim Hollis
